How to make an 'Applicant Tracking System (ATS)' Friendly Resume
- Avoid tables as this makes the text hard to read and can do things like merge words and mix up sections
- Avoid images, as ATS don't know what to do with these
- List your experience in the correct order (most recent first)
- Using skills and titles that the recruiters are likely to search for (but don't overdo it with these buzz words)
- Minimise complex formatting
- Use common headings for your resume sections such as 'Work History', 'Work Experience', 'Experience'
- Avoid headers and footers
- Upload your resume as a .PDF or a .docx (or whatever the employer requests)
